This dynamic and elegant dance form originated in Tamil Nadu. Triveni began Bharatnatyam classes from its inception in 1950 at Connaught Place. The first teacher was Pandit Vijay Raghav Rao, a versatile linguist and accomplished artist trained in both Bharatanatyam and Carnatic music.

An internationally acclaimed Bharatanatyam exponent, Smt. Jayalakshmi Eshwar is an excellent performer, choreographer, author and teacher with more than five decades of experience. Her in-depth and meticulous training under the late Smt. Rukmini Devi Arundale of Kalakshetra, Chennai, has made her style innovative yet traditional, striking a balance between the traditional and contemporary interpretations.
