About INTACH:

The Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) was founded in 1984 in New Delhi with the vision to spearhead heritage awareness and conservation in India. Today INTACH is recognized as one of the world’s largest heritage organizations, with over 228 Chapters across the Country. In the past 40 years, INTACH has pioneered the conservation and preservation of not just our natural and built heritage but intangible heritage as well. Headquartered in New Delhi, it operates through various divisions such as Architectural Heritage, Natural Heritage, Art & Material Heritage, Intangible Cultural Heritage, Heritage Education and Communication Services (HECS), Heritage Crafts and Community, Chapters, INTACH Heritage Academy, Heritage Tourism, Listing Cell and INTACH Knowledge Centre.

The workshop is conducted in collaboration with experts from the Art & Material Heritage division, also known as INTACH Conservation Institutes (ICI). It was established with the objective of preserving heritage for future generations. The center has undertaken continuous study and research to develop the best methodologies in the field of conservation science in India. As a result, it provides unmatched services in conservation for art collectors. The center has also worked towards spreading concern for our heritage by conducting seminars and workshops to spread concern for heritage conservation.

About the facilitators: 

Mr Subrata Sen, Art Conservator (Senior Coordinator at INTACH (ICI) Delhi)

Mr. Subrata Sen is presently working with the INTACH Conservation Institute as a Senior Coordinator. He has been associated with the INTACH Art and Material Heritage Division since 2008. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, specialising in sculpture, from Indira Kala Sangit Vishwavidyalaya, Khairagarh, C.G., and a Master’s degree in Art Conservation from the National Museum Institute. He was also awarded the Charles Wallace India Trust Conservation Scholarship in 2010-2011, during which he did his internship at the British Museum (Stone, Wall Paintings, and Mosaics Conservation Studio). He has coordinated many wall painting conservation projects in Ladakh as well as the restoration of the Flora Fountain in Mumbai. At ICI INTACH, he predominantly works with 3D objects, especially contemporary artworks, including sculptures, paintings, installations, etc.

Ms. Merrin Anil, Art Conservator (Centre Coordinator at INTACH (ICI) Delhi)

Ms. Merrin Anil is presently working with the INTACH Conservation Institute as the Delhi Center Coordinator. She has been associated with the INTACH Art and Material Heritage Division since 2013. She has a bachelor’s degree in History honours from Delhi University and a Master’s degree in art conservation from the National Museum Institute. She was awarded the Indian Conservation Fellowship in 2017, where she worked with polychrome sculptures at SRAL (Stichting Restauratie Atelier Limburg) in Maastricht. She has coordinated many wall painting conservation projects, including wall paintings in Kirti Mandir, Gujarat, executed by Nandlal Bose, an eminent Indian artist, as well as the conservation of museum objects in the collection of the Museum of Christian Art, Goa. At ICI INTACH, she is involved with the conservation of 3D objects and paintings.

Mr Mohd Galib, Art Conservator (Senior Conservator at INTACH (ICI) Delhi)

Mohd Galib has been working as a senior conservator at the INTACH Conservation Institute, New Delhi, for the last twelve years. He did his graduation in B.Sc. (Hons.) Zoology from the University of Delhi and a Master’s in Conservation, Preservation, and Heritage Management from the Delhi Institute of Heritage Research and Management. He is involved in the conservation and restoration of paintings, including easel and mural paintings, the conservation of 3-dimensional objects, and the conservation and restoration of historic buildings, especially lime-based historic buildings. Besides working in the conservation laboratory, he is also involved in outdoor projects in his organization (INTACH) and has successfully completed more than 10 projects. He has a very keen interest in the preventive conservation of museum objects, especially the reorganization of museum storage.
