BASIC COURSE IN SMARTPHONE FILM MAKING
ABOUT THE COURSE
Basic Course in Smartphone Film Making in Delhi, from 31 July – 04 August 2023
Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune under its ‘Centre For Open Learning (CFOL)’ program in association with Triveni Kala Sangam New Delhi, announces on-campus Short Course – Basic Course in Smartphone Film making at Triveni Kala Sangam New Delhi.
Following are the details in this regard;
- Name of the Course: Basic Course in Smartphone Film Making
- Dates: 31 July – 04 August 2023 (05 days)
- Timings: 10 am to 5 pm (1 pm to 2 pm will be lunch break)
- No. of participants: 40 (Course will be conducted only if minimum strength of 32 is reached)
- Age: 18 years & above as on 01 July 2023
- Educational Qualification: HSC (12th pass). In exceptional cases, 10th pass may be considered
- Nationality: Indian
- Medium of Instructions: The medium of instruction would be mainly English and partly Hindi. Participants are expected to have adequate knowledge of English and/ or Hindi as regards to reading, writing & speaking.
- MANDATORY REQUIREMENT: Participants must have a good quality Smartphone which can at-least record HD video
- Venue: Triveni Auditorium, Triveni Kala Sangam, 205, Tansen Marg, Todermal Road Area, Mandi House, Delhi, 110001
- Per Participant Course fee: Rs 7,000/- (base fee = Rs 5,932/- and GST = Rs 1,068/-)
Course fee is excluding breakfast, lunch, tea/ coffee, snacks etc.
Course fee of selected participants will be non-refundable, non-transferrable, non-adjustable, etc. under any circumstances. Course fee of all the non – selected participants will be refunded within 21 woking days of the course commencement.

- Due date & time: 15 July 2023, 6 pm IST. Application submitted after due date & time will not be considered.

- Course Director: Mr Ajmal Jami
Ajmal Jami is a visual communication professional with three and a half decades of award winning work.
He has been conducting workshops on visual communication, mobile journalism and filmmaking at front ranking universities and institutions.
As HoD camera, he was a core team member implementing pioneering smartphone model in news operations at NDTV.
As a faculty at FTII - SKIFT (now CFOL), have been conducting smartphone filmmaking workshops all across India since 2018.
How to apply:

2. Search/Find FTII Fees Account in Educational institutions name and click submit.
3. In the payment category select “O4 Basic C. in Smartphone Film Making.”.
4. Fill-up the application form with requisite details and proceed for payment.
5. Make necessary payment of Rs 7,000/- as the case may be.
6. Once payment is done, please note "SBcollect Reference Number" (mentioned in payment confirmation receipt). This may be required for future reference.
7. If possible, digitally store the receipt of payment. This can be carried out in one of the following ways;
(i) by taking printout of receipt of payment, scan & save it
(ii) by taking screenshot of payment (if using mobile) or printscreen (if using computer)
(iii) by simply taking a photograph from mobile
8. No document/ certificate related to educational qualification, age etc. is to be attached. Participants’ self – declaration in the application form is sufficient.
9. Terms & conditions: By agreeing to the terms & conditions in the application form, participants are confirming that they have read & understood the website advt. They are eligible to apply and fulfil all the requirements as stated in the advt. Also, it is presumed that participants will be staying and or attending the course at their own risk & cost and FTII will not be held responsible for anything or matter of what-so-ever nature. Further, participants agree that decision of FTII Director regarding admission to the course and its conduction in all respect will be final.
- Communication with participants: All communications with the participants will be carried out through email only. List of shortlisted participants may be published on FTII website and selection email will be sent to the selected participants on their registered email id.

- All participants need to assure general decency, decorum etc. on the campus. Failing to do so will lead to cancellation of admission without refunding course fee apart from taking internal disciplinary action (including cancellation of allotted room etc.) and dealing the matter as per law of the land. All rights in this regard are reserved with FTII.
- Certificates: All participants would be given participation certificate on successful completion of the course which will carry logo of FTII and Triveni Kala Sangam and will be jointly signed by FTII Director, Triveni Kala Sangam Official and the Course Director. Minimum 90% attendance is mandatory to get certificate.

Course Contents
• Introduction to the language of cinema. Terminology, psychology and grammar of its building blocks
• Composition and aesthetics of these units
• The smartphone as a film making device - familiarisation and usage in shooting and editing
• Accessories for filming and usage
• Light, colour and sound - meaning, significance and usage.
• Thinking in terms of picture and sound and working on these as linkages with meaning.
• Developing a storyline. Script and storyboard
• Ideation , planning , shooting and editing of group film project
• Screening and review
